FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (To
Oklahoma Media) 18
March 2003
Oklahoma
City, OK––Breathing Disorders Services, Inc. (BDS), a national
home medical equipment provider with headquarters in Oklahoma
City, has announced the opening of new home medical equipment (HME)
offices in Colorado Springs, CO, Hemet, CA and Kingman, AZ. The
new operations follow the company’s successful establishment of
similar therapeutic services in Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.
Through
the new offices, BDS will provide in-home nasal continuous
positive airway pressure (CPAP) equipment and support to persons
diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. OSA is a
disorder in which a person repeatedly stops breathing during
sleep. It can occur when muscles that control the tongue and
soft palate relax and allow the upper airway to narrow or even
become blocked. CPAP equipment delivers mildly pressurized air
through a small nose mask, keeping the airway open. In most
cases, CPAP therapy resolves OSA immediately, without the need
for drugs or surgery.
Recent
medical studies have established a direct correlation between
certain sleep disorders, particularly OSA, and cardiovascular
problems such as hypertension, stroke, coronary artery disease,
myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension and congestive
heart failure.
In
addition to CPAP equipment, the new offices will offer bi-level
therapy, oxygen therapy, nebulizers and other forms of in-home
aids for allergy and asthma sufferers.
“These
offices mark another milestone in our business plan to
selectively establish and acquire HME operations in proximity to
sleep diagnostic labs across the nation,” said an official company spokesperson from BDS. “There is a wide-spread need for our
services, since nearly 40 million Americans are estimated to
suffer from sleep disorders, though many of them are still
undiagnosed.”
